The most useful first message to a tailor is a short garment brief, not a folder of unexplained pictures. Tell Kelly what you want made, when you can visit and which decisions you still need help with. This guide turns those details into a message you can actually send.

Start with the occasion and garment list

Name each item and quantity: one jacket, two shirts or a dress, for example. Explain where you will wear it and whether an event has a fixed date. If you have a budget, give an amount in CNY and say whether it covers the whole order. You can discuss options without committing to every detail immediately.

Annotate a small set of references

Choose a few clear images and explain one feature in each: a lapel, sleeve, hem or overall shape. Separate details you want from details you do not. A photo of a favorite jacket does not mean you also want its trousers or fabric. Ask what can be reproduced and what needs adapting to your own order.

Send measurements as preparation

Kelly accepts measurements and reference photos in advance. Ask which measurements are needed and how to take them; avoid guessing from a generic chart. Mention an existing garment you could bring to discuss fit. Mark any measurements you are uncertain about so they can be checked rather than treated as final instructions.

Give your real visit window

Include arrival, departure and event dates, plus times when you are unavailable. Normal turnaround at Kelly’s is less than 7 days including fitting; suits can take as little as 3 days including fitting, subject to confirmation. Ask for consultation, fitting and collection separately. Walk-ins are welcome during 09:30–18:00 daily, but an agreed appointment makes the plan clearer.

Save this appointment note

Kelly’s current studio is Floor 18, Beifang Gongye Dasha, 1228 Zhongshan South Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, China. Take the elevator to floor 18. Use that address rather than an old stall reference. For the separate market destination, see our market guide.

Hello Kelly, I would like [items and quantities] for [occasion]. These photos show [specific details]. My budget is [CNY amount]. I am in Shanghai from [arrival] to [departure] and available at [times]. Which measurements should I send, and can we agree consultation, fitting and collection dates?

Keep the reply and references in one conversation. Before traveling, confirm the appointment location and any item you have been asked to bring.
