A coat needs to work over the clothing you actually wear beneath it. Bring that context to the consultation before choosing a silhouette from a photograph. At Kelly’s, coats start at ¥900 in CNY, with the final quote depending on fabric, design and quantity.
Describe where and how you will wear it
Say whether the coat is for commuting, events or travel and whether you will wear a jacket or knitwear underneath. Explain your preferred balance between a close silhouette and room for layers. Bring a reference and point out the features you want instead of asking for an unexplained copy.
Bring the thickest intended layer
Try the proposed fit over the layers you expect to use, especially at shoulders and sleeves. If you want to wear both light and substantial layers, discuss that range. Do not size the coat only over a thin shirt and assume it will feel the same over a jacket. Ask the tailor to explain the compromise between your preferred shape and space.
Agree length, fastening and pockets
Check the intended hem with your usual footwear. Discuss buttons, belt or another closure and how you want the coat to sit when open. Specify pocket placement and the things you expect to carry. A visible belt in a reference photo does not confirm every other construction detail; write down the choices that matter.

Ask fabric questions before approval
Record the actual fabric and lining references, composition and care guidance. Explain your intended conditions and ask what the maker recommends; do not infer warmth, water resistance or fiber content from a photo. Confirm availability and any price difference for another fabric. If matching a wardrobe color matters, compare a real garment with the proposed sample where practical.
Test seated and moving comfort
At the fitting, close the coat as intended, sit and reach forward gently. Try normal walking and check access to pockets. Discuss pressure, sleeve restriction or a hem that interferes with the use you described. Agree any changes and recheck the complete layered outfit before collection. Keep the written design and care instructions with your order so a later reorder has a useful reference.
